Hadrian's Wall In 122 AD, Roman Emperor Hadrian ordered a fortified wall to be built across Britain to separate Scotland and Britain. This wall was to keep the wild Celtic tribes from rampaging and ravaging the towns south of the wall. The wall was successful for 350 years. Today, remnants of Hadrian's Wall can be seen across the border between Scotland and England from the North Sea, in the East, to the Irish Sea, in the West. This picture was taken near New Castle Upon Tyne, near the North Sea.
